Editorial policy
Desertion Photography aims to make thoughtful, readable work about photographs and absence. We separate observation from interpretation, identify uncertainty where it matters and correct material errors when they are brought to our attention.
Accuracy and interpretation
Articles should describe visible features carefully and avoid claiming knowledge that an image cannot establish. Historical or contextual statements should be checked against suitable information before publication. When a reading is interpretive, we say so rather than presenting it as the only possible meaning.
Independence and partnerships
Editorial decisions are made for reader interest, not to promise favourable coverage. Paid or partner material is identified clearly as such, and it is kept distinct from independent editorial work. A collaboration does not guarantee inclusion or a particular conclusion.
Corrections
Readers can send a correction through the Contact page. We review the point, check the relevant wording and amend significant errors with a clear note where appropriate. Minor adjustments for clarity may be made without a separate notice.
Illustrations
Some illustrations may be generated with AI. Where an illustration could be mistaken for a documentary photograph, its illustrative nature is made clear. Illustrations are not presented as evidence of a real event or place.
Absence is part of the picture.
A photograph can show what is missing as clearly as what remains. Looking closely makes room for more than one reading.
